GAIL hosts the GRI India’s ‘Hands on workshop on Learning from GRI G4 Reports in India’ on 10th Dec 2014

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is a leading organisation in the field of sustainability. Headquartered at Amsterdam, the GRI works with the vision of a sustainable global economy where organisations manage their economic, environmental, social and governance performance and impacts responsibly, and report transparently. ​The GRI Focal Point India provides guidance and support to local organisations, driving GRI’s mission in India.
GAIL became the proud host of the GRI India’s ‘Hands on workshop on Learning from GRI G4 Reports in India’ on 10th December, 2014 at GAIL Corporate Office, New Delhi
The Welcome Address was delivered by Sh. M. Ravindran, Director (HR). In addition to highlighting GAIL’s sustainability perspective, he also focused on preparing for the G4 guidelines that drive greater attention to Materiality and Supply chain management. This was followed by a short presentation on GAIL’s Sustainability initiatives by Sustainability team.
The workshop began with the presentation from Dr. Aditi Haldar, Head & Director, GRI Focal Point India, on the main features of the GRI G4 guidelines. The workshop had speakers from organisations such as Infosys, ACC, Yes Bank, BSI Group, DNV among others. Since the organisations have been pioneers and early adopters of GRI G4 Sustainability Reporting, it was an immense learning experience for GAIL which is gearing up for the reporting in accordance with GRI G4 guidelines for FY 14-15.
The workshop was interactive and well attended by executives representing from organisations such as Vodafone, BPCL, NTPC, BHEL, TERI, Asian Paints, Mother Diary, Havells among others.
GAIL as one of the exclusive members of the GRI Focal Point India Sustainability & Transparency Consortium hosted the Workshop which was of high prestige value to GAIL, giving a platform to showcase itself as an organisation committed to the cause of sustainability and also avail a platform to gain from the experience of GRI G4 early adopters. Last year, GAIL had also hosted the launch of the GRI G4 Guidelines in India.
A vote of thanks was given by Sh. Santanu Roy, GM (Corporate Planning).

In addition to the workshop, the GRI Advisory Committee Meeting was held at GAIL Corporate Office on 11th December, 2014. The session was chaired by Sh. Bhaskar Chatterjee, DG IICA. A presentation on Global Strategy of GRI by delivered by Dr. Alyson Slater, Director Regional Network and Sustainable Development, GRI and Update and way forward of GRI Focal Point India by Dr. Aditi Haldar. The Committee has representation from GAIL, BSI, TCS, CII and DNV among others.

The World’s Largest Solar Project

BrightSource’s LPT solar thermal system is operating at the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System (ISEGS) in California’s Mojave Desert. Ivanpah, which began commercial operation in 2013, is delivering power to PG&E and Southern California Edison. The project is currently the largest solar thermal power plant in the world. Ivanpah was constructed by Bechtel and is operated by NRG Energy one of the project’s equity investors.

RSPCL- GAIL GAS Limited Spreading its wings to set up Retail Gas Infrastructure in Rajasthan

RSPCL-GAIL GAS Ltd. a Joint Venture Company of Rajasthan State Petroleum Corporation limited (A subsidiary of Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Limited) & GAIL GAS Limited (A subsidiary of GAIL India Ltd.) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajasthan Industrial and Investment Corporation Limited today at Jaipur to expand the Natural Gas downstream distribution network in the state of Rajasthan. The MoU was signed by Shri Ravi Agrawal, Managing Director RSPCL-GAIL Gas Limited and Ms. Veenu Gupta MD, RIICO in the august presence of Hon. Chief Minister, Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje, Sh. Rajiv Mehrishi, Chief Secretary, Shri C.S.Rajan Additional Chief Secretary and Chairman, RSPCL- GAIL GAS Limited, and Shri Prabhat Singh, Director (Marketing) GAIL (India) Ltd. Besides, other key dignitaries including Dr.Ashok Singhvi, Principal Secretary Mines and Petroleum, Shri Prem Singh Mehra, Principal Secretary (Finance), Shri Lalit Sharma Advisor (Infra) and Sh. P.K.Pal CEO GAIL Gas Limited were also present on the occasion.

  • RSPCL-GAIL GAS Ltd. the JV Company was incorporated on 19.09.2013 to undertake gas distribution business in Rajasthan under the mandate of   Govt. of Rajasthan in the Budget -2014 which announced that RSPCL-GAIL GAS Ltd.  would be setting up a Mega CNG station at Neemrana   and Booster Daughter Station at Kukas in Phase–I.
  • The activities started  gaining momentum  when GAIL`s top management held a meeting with the Chief Secretary  on 22nd April, 2014 to provide strategic direction to the officers of the company. The JV Company is now in position to spread its wings in the State for ensuring availability of cleaner and safer fuel. To strengthen the JV Company`s  position in the State and as a part of a strategic decision.
  • The company has  aggressive business plans to create CNG highways along the pipeline infrastructure, besides meeting demand for  Industrial, Commercial and Domestic  Customers in the state of Rajasthan and is also committed to create  Natural  Gas  based  infrastructure to meet demand of Natural Gas (Green Fuel) for  Industrial, Domestic (PNG), Auto mobile(CNG) sectors.
  • This MoU will initiate the process of identification of strategic locations for gas based industries, development of gas based infrastructure and promotion of natural gas on common platform in Rajasthan for setting up CNG Stations along the DMIC corridor and State Highways and distribution of gas to various industrial clusters and parks in Rajasthan.

RSPCL-GGL shall develop the network in a phased manner:-

In Phase-I:-  A Mega CNG Mother Station would be set up at  Neemrana and a Daughter Booster Station at  Kukas near Jaipur  thereby opening up the CNG corridor along Delhi-Jaipur Highway NH-8 and catering to the industrial customers in  and around Alwar and Kukas.

In Phase–II:-RSPCL-GGL plans to develop CNG network   in  Jaipur, Ajmer,  Sikar and Udaipur  cities along the  Jaipur-Ajmer Highway, Jaipur–Kota Highway, Jaipur-Sikar Highway and Kota- Udaipur Highway  CNG Corridors.

In Phase–III:- RSPCL-GGL has plans to meet the needs of Natural Gas by importing LNG from Dahej for the distantly located districts which are not covered by pipe line connectivity .

  • CNG is an Eco friendly fuel with no impurities, like Sulphur and Lead; It has very low levels of polluting gaseous emissions without smell and dust.  It is lighter than air and is safe to use. It is economical and cheaper than conventional fuel. It has very high antiknock power and allows greater performance compared to petrol. PNG is safe, convenient to use, economical, facilitates continuous supply, no wastage, hassle free from handling and replacement of cylinders
  • RSPCL-GGL will be rechristened as “Rajasthan State Gas Ltd. (RSGL)” after the approval from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.  It will take the lead in making significant contribution in   economic growth and provide revenue to the state exchequer by developing gas based network for Green and Clean energy and realize the dream of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan, to see Rajasthan amongst the most developed, frontrunner states in the country and to build an environment where industrial growth and business can flourish and lead to all around prosperity of the State.

The Benefits of CNG

Compressed natural gas (CNG) offers clean, domestically produced alternative fuel option. Using these fuels in natural gas vehicles increases energy security and can lower emissions. Some of the benefits of these are as follows:

  • Natural Gas (CNG) can give almost 50% savings over petroleum products such as gasoline and diesel fuel.
  • It is the cleanest burning transportation fuel in the market today.
  • CNG burns cleaner than petroleum based products because of its lower carbon content.
  • Natural gas vehicles show an average reduction in ozone-forming emissions of 80% compared to gasoline vehicles.

GAIL commits itself to the #CleanIndia campaign

Today, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the 145th birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India launched the #SwachhBharat Abhiyaan. A cleanliness drive to kick off  the program and a five year campaign to clean up India.

Gail India has donated Rs 270 million (Approximately 4.5 million USD) to the cause and each employee of the company has also pledged 2 hours to the cause every week. We are adopting 4 backward districts in three different states of India for this drive and will be creating sanitation facilities in over 1000 government schools. Employees are starting with the clean up drive today and will continue every week ensuring cleanliness is maintained.

The prime minister of India kicked off the campaign with a surprise visit to a police station, a visit to sanitation workers residential colony and a launch at Rajpath. First Floating Solar Power Plant to be built in India

gail_voice_22augIndian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has kicked in a project for Floating Solar Power Station in Kolkata, India.

An expert team is working on this project since an year for the development of the prototype. A demonstration project for Floating Solar Power Station is developed by a team led by SP Gon Choudhury, Director at Development Consultants Private Limited (DCL Group) and Vice Chairman at Calcutta Institute of Technology. 

Vikram Solar Pvt. Ltd., an Indian panel maker, is now working upon manufacturing the solar panels for South Asian nation’s first floating solar power plant on a lake in eastern India, expected to launch by December this year.
