Garbage bags made from Natural Gas

A waste by-product used to clear your waste

As research has it, it was in 1977 that Plastic bags were introduced into supermarkets.

There have been many schools of thought around the production of plastic Garbage bags. It is thought that all Garbage bags are made of oil however that is not true. Garbage bags come from “polyethylene.” These polyethylene polymers come from ethylene gas, which is basically made from ethane. Ethane is a ‘waste’ by-product resulting from refining Natural Gas.

When Ethane is separated from Natural Gas, it is converted into ethylene using a Thermal cracker and further into polyethylene polymers. Considering Ethane is waste by-product if it were not put to use, it would have to be burned. However burning ethane causes greenhouse emissions. So even better, put it to use to clear garbage!

It is important to note that using ethane does not affect the amount of fuel available for transportation or power generation.

According to planetgreen.discovery.com/home-garden/plastic-bag-facts.html

“Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. That’s over one million plastic bags used per minute.”
