GAIL owns and operates a network of over 10,500 km of Natural Gas high pressure trunk pipeline with a capacity to carry 172 MMSCMD of natural gas across the country. It supplies natural gas as fuel to power plants, as feedstock for gas based fertilizer plants and to over 500 other small, medium and large industrial units to meet their energy and process requirements. Here is PDF that outlines the working and history of the company.
The most recent project that GAIL has scheduled is the Tamil Nadu pipeline which will run through Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and
Krishnagiri districts. This pipeline is expected to pass through 136 villages
in seven districts of Tamil Nadu. Have a look at why GAIL refused Tamil Nadu’s proposal of laying the pipelines through the NH.
The project GAIL has undertaken will prove to be extremely beneficial to Tamil Nadu and its economy, specially with a growing demand for Gas and the outsourcing they currently need to do, the project will give them a sufficient supply for different industries. The Tamil Nadu government must realize that the proposed pipeline will bring in much needed gas to the power starved state. Here is an article that outlines the benefit of the proposed pipeline to Tamil Nadu considering the present scenario of demand for Natural Gas
The Video herewith was issued in the interest of Tamil Nadu. It describes that the benefit of
Natural Gas is not restricted to a certain industry but is also used in our
households in everyday life. Often termed as the ‘Smart Fuel,’ Natural Gas aids
development but not at the cost of damaging the environment. After serving 16 Indian states, Tamil Nadu is
the next destination to get the benefit of this new age fuel. Tomorrow is yours – Tamil Nadu
For now GAIL has not received a response from Tamil Nadu government, and shall take the issue through the Madras High Court. Have a look at the article below which depicts that GAIL awaits a decision and is open to discuss the issue and resolve it amicably.
