Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, will deliver the Inaugural Address during the 8th AGPS 2013 on December 3 at New Delhi.
Dr. Singh, had, for the 1st time, inaugurated the AGPS in 2012 and given the importance of the event that he has consented to inaugurate the conference this year as well.
In his inaugural address in 2012, Dr. Singh emphasised that the use of natural gas offered greater supply security through diversification of the energy basket and also helped in promoting sustainable economic growth and development. He had said that the emerging economies of Asia were rapidly increasing their use of natural gas and that China and India were emerging as a major destination for that supply. In this context, he said that, “We should move beyond the conventional buyer-seller relationships to more a comprehensive gas and energy partnership in this vast region,” adding that, “Such partnerships can benefit the gas-endowed countries in the region from capital investments in their gas fields and also from the associated long-term purchase agreements. Simultaneously, the fast-growing emerging markets in the region can gain in terms of securing reliable supplies of gas at affordable prices. The large and growing markets in Asia also provide an opportunity for collaboration through joint research and technology development for the supply of clean and cheaper energy to the people.”
