Increased demand of cheaper gas and environmental concerns has developed a need towards adaptation of green alternative . With oil- based fuels ruling the fuel market for more than 150 years , its time for natural gas to be implemented at industrial scale as well to reduce their carbon foot print.
Although analysts expects gas prices to drop substantially later this decade when new gas production will rise, ,Natural gas has already started to compete oil as the dominant transport fuel . now companies are building gas-powered ships and are installing networks of service stations on water and land.
Commencement of an era of natural gas can be viewed with Germany making its first move into LNG for transport. Bomin Linde LNG signed a deal in January to supply ferry firm AG EMS . It is now building two LNG bunker terminals in Hamburg and Bremerhaven, due to start operations in 2015.
“Supplying their ferries with LNG makes AG EMS a pioneer in Germany and sends a clear signal that this low-emission propulsion system has arrived here,” said Ruben Benders, managing director at Bomin Linde LNG.
Countries from all over the world like Germany, Singapore and the Netherlands investing in natural gas transport hubs while companies including Royal Dutch Shell, Gazprom and Total are also developing LNG fuel infrastructure.
