The concept of green building is being redefined in India’s capital. The new “greenest building of India” was inaugurated yesterday by PM Manmohan Singh and is now the India’s environment ministry building. The eight-storey architecture stands tall at Jor Bagh and is the outcome of three years of untiring efforts and green innovation. The building qualifies 5-star rating by TERI’s GRIHA and has earned LEED platinum rating.The structure is in itself a state of art aimed at reducing six factors; waste, energy, carbon footprint, carbon emissions and ignorance. The new building assimilates excellence of green automation right from highly efficient solar panels imported from US which are capable of generating 1MW of power to electricity generation from lift jerk when it stops. One of the major concern towards fulfillment of goal are efficient pavement of parking space. This led to the construction of a three level automated underground parking system which can accommodate 300 cars at once and enables car retrieval in only 3minutes !
Another challenge to be tackled was to ensure efficient power usage by the giant structure from the available sparse electricity supplies. Intelligent power monitoring system and Geo thermal heat exchange system answered all the electricity issues by supplying building energy requirements and also bypass extra electricity for the city use. The building efficiently recycles waste water coming from ACs which has reduced water demands of building by 50%. The recycled water is being used for watering plants and other required areas. This building is a new milestone in the history of green buildings of India.
