Windmill has been conventionally used to harness wind energy since ages. Scientists and researchers have also tried to modify the design and processing of the same. Recently the elongated designs of the blades have resulted in the biggest windmill producing enormous amount of energy. These gigantic windmills were installed in the coastal regions where the wind speed is high.
While the world is busy figuring out how to enlarge the design and bank in more of energy; two brothers from India, Mohammad Mehtar Hussain (38) along with his younger brother, Mushtaq Ahmad (34) invented a windmill design made of bamboo and in sheets that can pump water from as deep as 50 feet beneath the surface and requires just 10-12 km/hr of wind speed. The water discharge capacity of the design is about 1200-1500 lit/hr and it could further be laced with a tube well or even an open well for the purposes of irrigation. The design’s operational and maintenance cost is minimal. The inventors were appreciated and awarded for the same at Fourth National Biennial Award, 2007.
The low cost windmill is now accepted all over the nation for agricultural usage.
