GAIL to transform the City of Gardens

We are proud to announce the commencement of gas supply by GAIL to the city of Bengaluru. Dr. M Veerappa Moily, Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas inaugurated the Dabhol – Bengaluru pipeline for Bengaluru and expressed his happiness by stating that the supply of natural gas would help in eradicating pollution from the city. A Gas Transmission Agreement was also signed with Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) for Bidadi Power Plant on the same day.

Our initiative is the first of its kind to bring natural gas to the people of Karnataka. This accomplishment will lead to gas supply to various industries of the state, Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts being the first recipient. With the 1,000 km pipeline, we aim to change the energy landscape of the state by supplying to industries at Belgaum, Dharwad, Gadag, Bellary, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Tumkur and Ramanagaram. The 73 km pipeline successfully installed in Bengaluru city, will be responsible for supplying CNG to automobiles and piped cooking gas to households.

Backed by over 4500 personnel and 2200 equipment, we completed the Dabhol-Bangalore Gas Pipeline Network within a record period of 19 months. To realize the project, we had the support of nearly 4000 farmers from Tumkur, ChitraDurga and Bidadi. It was ensured that the construction involved minimum disruption of the lands and that the farmers received adequate compensation.

Projects like the Dabhol-Bangalore pipeline not only benefit households and road transport, but also boost power generation by a high magnitude. At GAIL, our aim is to supply natural gas to facilitate the generation of enough power to illuminate over 4 million households and boost agriculture with the potential production of 8 million tonnes of urea.
