Germany becomes a part of the solution

Japan’s catastrophic nuclear power plant failure has compelled countries all over the world to rethink about their current energy portfolios.

Similar situations prevailed in Germany where radioactive radiations from Chernobyl led to rage in Germans. Thus, Germany world’s fourth biggest economy has declared to shut down its 17 nuclear energy plants by 2022 and adopt renewable energy sources. Germany has known for long the energy potential in renewables and today it is capable of generating energy which is equivalent to 28 nuclear reactors!!

Angela Dorothea Merkel, Chancellor of Germany since 2005 said, “We believe that we can show those countries who decide to abandon nuclear power – or not to start using it – how it is possible to achieve growth, creating jobs and economic prosperity while shifting the energy supply toward renewable energies,”.

Germany had already shut down its 7 of the total nuclear plants which accounted for 40% of the total nuclear energy capacity of the nation. Now, Germany is reconditioning its energy portfolio for a sustainable as well as uniform energy supply harnessing renewable energy sources to its apogee. This act will eventually lead to foundation of more natural gas plants in the nation.

On the same league, Switzerland has announced gradual shut down of its nuclear plants by 2034 which accounts for 40% of the total energy supplies.
