Second-seeded Somdev Devvarman, progressed to the second round of the men’s singles at the ONGC GAIL Delhi Open ATP Challenger tennis tournament.
Devvarman won with a straight-set win today.
Somdev, is ranked 96th in the world, beat Karunuday Singh also an Indian player, 6-2, 7-5. The match wasn’t as one-sided as the scoreline suggests as Singh fought back fiercely in the second round. Karunuday who is 483rd in the world ranking, had four break point opportunities in the first set but failed to convert any of them. However, Somdev converted two of the three break points in the first set.
Somdev is set to meet the winner of the match between Ti Chen of Chinese Taipei and Di wu of China in the second of the ONGC GAIL Delhi Open ATP Challenger tennis tournament.
