Yet again, Natural Gas extends its promise to the transport sector. FORD has decided to introduce a CNG version of its 2014 F150 pickup truck, a perennial best seller in North America. With a 3.7-liter V6 engine and a gaseous-fuel prep package it can operate on either natural gas or gasoline through separate fuel systems. The CNG engine will drive the mileage up to 750 miles on just one tank of gas!
Considering the need of the hour, which is a greener and carbon free tomorrow, a big truck rolling out on Natural Gas is definitely the answer. Also, the fact is big trucks burn more fuel compared to a smaller vehicle and thus Ford’s idea is to take advantage of the fuel’s low price and clean emissions. Simply said, Natural gas burns cleaner than gasoline and especially diesel. An interesting fact according to the U.S. Department of Energy is that CNG emits approximately “6% to 11% lower levels of GHGs than gasoline throughout the fuel life cycle”.
And the cherry on the top, CNG conversions can provide stability against fluctuating fuel prices as well as lower vehicle operating costs for fleet administrators. After all CNG sells cheaper over unleaded regular fuel. So perhaps its time for FORD to show off with its claim to the only half-ton pickup in the US that can run on regular gasoline as well as the two natural gases.
