With hopes of a joint venture between GAIL and the Goa state government, piped dreams could turn into a reality. GAIL is currently in dialogue with the Goan government and plans to set up this venture for the distribution of PNG and CNG in Goa. GAIL is also speaking to the government regarding space to set up its office in Goa.
For this joint venture in Goa, GAIL is looking at the Kadamba transport corporation (KTC) to act as its distributor. KTC already has 14 bus stands in Goa and with another 4 planned for the year, which will serve as CNG supply points.
GAIL is a Maharatna company founded in 1984 and this year; in February it commissioned its 178-km long underground gas pipeline (cost of Rs. 800 crores approx..) from Gokak (Karnataka) to Goa (Vasco). As far as industries in Goa are concerned, GAIL already supplies 150mmscm (metric million standard cubic metres) gas to companies (example Zuari industries, Umicore and Reliance infrastructure limited) along the Sancoale-Vasco area. Aditionally, the PSE is laying a 28km pipeline to supply gas to Binani Glass at Colvale in Bardez taluka.
According to the article (https://goo.gl/EjCH0B), PNG has a big advantage over the present LPG, as it is cheaper, safer and environment-friendly. According to the article the price of the same amount of PNG in Goa will be cheaper compared to a gas cylinder in Delhi. GAIL is already supplying CNG in places like Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Gujarat.
