We are the youngest Maharatna Company, working tirelessly to facilitate economic and social growth. At GAIL, we work for the future so that it is better than today.
With sustained economic growth over the last two decades, India has seen a rising demand for Natural gas to fulfil its energy requirements. GAIL, being the principal gas player, is endeavouring to procure adequate gas supplies for the future. In order to meet the immediate shortfall from decline in domestic production, we have from time to time imported spot cargoes from Equatorial Guinea, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Norway, Oman, Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, Trinidad&Tobago, Yemen and Spain. We have also signed short term LNG agreements with Marubeni, GDF Suez, and GNF for a combined 4.9 MMSCMD supply of natural gas.
Looking at the long term horizon for energy security, we have also signed a couple of long term LNG tie-ups with Cheniere in USA and Gazprom in Russia, wherein supplies are expected to commence between 2018 and 2020. Both these contracts would ensure uninterrupted LNG supply for 20 years each. As a well thought out strategy, GAIL has been developing a diversified portfolio in terms of source and price indexations to mitigate geopolitical risks and price volatility.
We at GAIL also understand the need for infrastructure to facilitate the transfer of imported gas into transmission and distribution networks. We have a network of 10,500 kms pipeline connecting various consumption centres across the country. Accordingly, along the west coast we’ve commissioned Dabhol LNG terminal of 5 MMTPA capacity located at Maharashtra and are in the process of commissioning an FSRU (Floating Storage & Regassification Unit) of 3.5 MMTPA capacity at Kakinada, along the east coast . All these projects would benefit their implementation sites as well as neighbouring states.
These projects are exemplar of our commitment towards ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply and energy efficiency. GAIL is committed to designing a better tomorrow for generations to come.
